Cupping

Female athlete performing active range of motion exercise using cupping to increase range of motion in her hamstrings.

Cupping

Myofascial decompression, aka cupping is a therapy technique that lifts fascia to improve soft tissue functionality, decreases pain, and reduces scar tissue formation. Cupping creates a negative pressure space which draws up the tissue and creates space between the skin layer, superficial fascia layer, deep fascia layer, and the underlying muscle.

Cupping improves:

  • Tissue slide and glide through increased hydration.

  • Range of motion through active cupping.

  • Scar tissue mobility by breaking up the adhesions and promoting healthy tissue orientation and elasticity.

  • Lymphatic drainage

  • We have found Cupping to be an essential part of Total Knee Replacement recovery. We have great success reducing swelling and increasing joint range of motion using cupping along with gentle manual therapy immediately after surgery.
